Pencil was originally designed for ecommerce brands and performance agencies who need to aggressively test a large amount of ad creative in order to deliver ROAS and CPA.
Pencil works best if you already have a strong brand and a library of images and video featuring your products or services that you need to turn into winning ads. If you don't have this, we strongly suggest building an asset library of at least 3-5 product images (try https://www.soona.com) and 3-5 UGC videos (try https://billo.app) before using Pencil. Stock images and videos are a last resort! Low quality creative inputs will lead to low quality creative outputs.
Pencil works best if you're already spending at least $5k/mo on ads and have data in your ad account on what's working and not working. If you don't have this, you'll need to experiment with as many, and as varied, ads as possible to set a baseline and create patterns in what works and what doesn't for your business. Pencil will start learning and showing you predictions with data from ~10 ads for a given objective, targeting and metric.
Pencil takes in your branding, assets and data - and generates static and video ad ideas predicted to perform.
When you first sign up for Pencil you'll need to provide all of this as part of onboarding. Our team will then review and set up your workspace as well as generate your first batch of ads, which typically takes <24 hours. After this you'll be able to generate, edit and launch ads yourself. We can continue to support you if needed.
Pencil uses a pipeline of AI algorithms. Our algorithms write copy, edit video, match copy and visuals to create narratives, select best-practice templates and layouts, apply branding and make predictions. All of this happens automatically in less than 1 minute per ad.

At the moment, Pencil generates ad copy in English. However all languages are supported so you can quickly translate your ads into any language you like. If it's a language with special characters, just make sure the font you choose supports them.
Yes, you can activate or deactivate brand workspaces you've subscribed for as your needs change. For example, if you're an agency and have subscribed for 3 workspaces, you can deactivate an old client workspace and activate a new client workspace to replace it easily.
If you need more brand workspaces, you can add a new brand workspace at the standard rate and your subscription period will begin immediately.

We accept all major credit cards. For quarterly or annual subscriptions we can also accept payment via bank transfers.
You can cancel your subscription at any time, and any charges will stop at the end of your billing period. For Managed plans we will work with you to ensure adequate notice is available if you need to cancel.
If for any reason you’re unhappy with Pencil, please let us know as soon as possible. You can contact us via Intercom inside the platform, email support@trypencil.com or contact your Customer Success Manager. If you give us a detailed account of what happened, we’ll work with you to make sure you have the best experience possible.
Pencil requires the correct inputs to generate ads. If your inputs are low quality, your outputs will be low quality! You can read more about this here.
Required inputs include:
1. A brand kit including logos, fonts, colors and a short description of your brand and products.
2. Assets including product images, lifestyle images, product video or UGC video.
Images and video must not contain any text or "supers" as this text will interfere with Pencil's automated video editing functionality.
Pencil generates ads in "batches". Every batch includes 4 ad ideas - 6s video, 10s video, 15s video and static. Each ad idea is automatically available in 5 sizes - 1:1, 9:16, 4:5, 16:9, 1.91:1.
This means that Pencil's outputs can be used on pretty much any channel including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Snap, Amazon etc.
You're able to export your generated ad ideas directly into your ad account. You can also download your ad ideas as image (PNG) or video (MP4) files.
When your subscription ends, you will lose access to your workspaces and all charges will stop at the end of your billing period. If you want to restart a cancelled subscription, just email us at support@trypencil.com
Yes. Please review our terms of service, privacy policy and AI ethics policy which is always updated at the bottom of our website.
Your plan’s quota refers to the number of ads you generate and then either download or export into your connected ad accounts. All the ads generated by Pencil that you don’t use are not counted towards your quota. If you want to use more ads than your quota allows, you can pay for additional ads on a per-ad basis aligned to the per-ad price of your plan.
We understand that the number of ads you need each month may vary. If you don’t use up all of your monthly quota of ads, your unused quota will roll over for an additional month automatically.
